SANGKURIANG

     In ancient times, the land of Parahyangan was ruled by a king and queen who had a son named Dayang Sumbi. Dayang Sumbi was a spoiled child and when one day, she was spinning the yarn and the yarn fell down until she got angry and swore that anyone as long as it was a man who wanted to take her spun she would accept him as her husband. As soon as he finished taking the oath, a male dog named Tumang came and handed the spun into Dayang Sumbi's hands.

     Because of his oath, he married Tumang, a powerful dog. They also live happily and are blessed with a child in the form of a human named Sangkuriang. Sangkuriang has supernatural powers like his father and he only knows Tumang as a loyal dog. One day Sangkuriang and Tumang were hunting in the forest, when Sangkuriang ordered Tumang to catch his prey but Tumang didn't want to so Sangkuriang was annoyed and slaughtered it. When he got home he cooked Tumang's meat and ate with his mother. After his mother found out, Dayang Sumbi was very angry and hit Sangkuriang's forehead with a shell spoon.

     Dayang Sumbi was expelled from the kingdom because of her actions, and Sangkuriang went on a journey to the outside world to find out the situation there. One day he accidentally returns to his homeland and he meets a beautiful woman and he wants to marry a woman who is none other than his mother, but he doesn't know it yet. As his wedding day approached, Sangkuriang asked his fiancé's permission to hunt, when Dayang Sumbi straightened Sangkuriang's hair he saw a scar on his forehead and immediately realized that he was about to marry his own son.

     Then Dayang Sumbi gave a condition that was impossible for Sangkuriang to complete, namely making a dam that could cover the entire hill and making a boat to go along the dam. All of that must be finished before the morning of tomorrow. Sangkuriang also agreed, he also used supernatural powers to summon a genie to help him make the conditions given, when it was almost finished, Dayang Sumbi watched from afar and he was worried that if Sangkuriang could afford it, he asked the villagers for help to make things morning. The genies left because it was morning, knowing that Sangkuriang was angry and cursed Dayang Sumbi and kicked the boat, breaking the dam.
